Ledger.com/Start — Securely Set Up Your Ledger Device
Welcome to the official onboarding portal for your Ledger hardware wallet. Follow this guided process to unbox, install, initialize and secure your device — so you can begin managing your crypto with confidence.
1. Unbox & inspect your device
When your Ledger wallet arrives, check for tampering or broken seals. Inside you will typically find the hardware device, USB cable, recovery seed cards, and quick‑start guide. If anything seems off, contact official support before proceeding.
2. Download Ledger Live
- Go to ledger.com/start and download the appropriate version of Ledger Live for your desktop or mobile device.
- Install the application and launch it.
3. Connect & initialize your hardware wallet
- Connect the Ledger device to your computer via the supplied USB cable.
- In Ledger Live, follow the prompts to either set up a new device or recover from an existing seed phrase.
- Choose a strong PIN on the device — you will need this each time you access your wallet.
- Write down your recovery seed (usually 24 words) on the provided card or a secure offline medium. This seed is your only backup — if lost, you lose access.
4. Add accounts & manage crypto
Once setup is complete, use Ledger Live to add crypto accounts, send and receive assets, and explore staking or exchanging options. Your private keys always remain offline on the device — Ledger Live serves purely as the interface.
Security Reminder: Never share your recovery seed or PIN with anyone. Ledger support will never ask for them. Always verify you are on the official domain ledger.com and beware of phishing sites.
5. Tips for long‑term safety
- Store your recovery phrase in a secure offline location (metal backups recommended).
- Keep your device firmware and Ledger Live software up to date.
- Use the device only on trusted computers — avoid public or shared devices.
- Enable optional security features like passphrases if you understand how to use them.
